Story Center

The Story Center hosts public and custom workshops provide participants with tools that support self-expression, creative practice, and community building to create spaces for listening to and sharing stories to help build a just and healthy world. In 2022, Story Center worked with Native American AOKC Summer Institute participants and student fellows to surface their stories about how language has shaped their sense of identity. Students created 3-4-minute digital stories about the impact of language revitalization on their personal growth and learning.

Going through the Story Center workshop process, students:

  • Developed deeper connections with other students and faculty

  • Became more fully aware of the impact of their Native languages on their lives

  • Learned media-making skills

  • Practiced multi-modal authoring skills

  • Exercised their creativity in creating these short, reflective videos, using their own words and images

  • Reinforced that their lived experiences are important
