  • Fort Lewis College Vallecito Room 1000 Rim Drive Durango, CO, 81301 United States of America (map)

Come watch the film Navajo Highways with the AOKC , 9R, and the City of Durango!

Navajo Highways (2025, written and directed by Pete Sands) follows Sadie during her summer vacation on the Navajo Nation Reservation. Raised away from the reservation, Sadie begins a transformative journey as she immerses herself in Diné culture and Diné Bizaad with her family in Mitten Creek. Her grandmother Sally, Cousin Ash, Uncle Al, and various community members like the trader, burrito vendors, and a local teacher, teach Sadie about the richness of Navajo traditions, both past and present.

Navajo Highways is intended as an educational tool for Navajo children (Pre-K - 3rd grade), contributing to language learning and cultural understanding. Led by puppets representing Sadie and her family, each episode includes encounters with Diné role models and community members (guest stars), generating curiosity, connection, and learning amongst viewers.

There are 6 episodes ranging from 15 to 20 minutes each.

Movie snacks and drinks provided. This event is free, family friendly, and open to the public.
